    Trader Workstation Upgrades

Interactive Brokers continues to enhance its industry leading trade management tools with the following upgrades to the Trader Workstation:

A new market scanner screen that allows real-time filtering of US stocks, options, and indices based on various criteria such as greatest volume and largest price change, etc. We will update the scanner over time to include all of our Universal Direct Access products.
A redesigned spread order entry window with drag-and-drop functionality.
New fundamental analysis screens including company profiles, news & commentary, financials, insider trading, analyst info, and SEC filings, all accessible from a market data line.
    A redesigned order ticket window.
Real-time simple and exponential moving averages on Interactive Charts.

For more information on these and other upgrades, please see our latest release notes.

    Tax Reporting

Once again tax season is approaching and you can expect the following over the next month:

A yearly statement of 2004 transactions with Profit and Loss based on First In, First Out (FIFO) accounting has been posted to Account Management. If there are any issues with cost basis for positions created prior to January 1, 2004 or ACAT transfers, we encourage you to modify the cost basis for these transactions through Account Management before February 15, 2005.
As of the end of January 31, 2005, a 1099 tax statement will be posted to Account Management (accessible through Login/Tax Forms on the website) for Individual, Joint, Trust, and Partnership accounts with a US Tax Payer ID. IRA accounts will receive tax reports directly from Trustar, your IRA account Trustee. Corporations, Unincorporated Businesses, and Limited Liability Corporations will not receive any tax reports from Interactive Brokers as the IRS does not require brokers to report for these entities.
Those customers who are not US legal residents or do not qualify to receive a 1099 form may receive a Form 1042S. These forms will be available after February 15, 2005.
Legal residents of Canada will receive a Form T3, T5, T5008 and RL-3 as required by law. These forms should be available after February 28, 2005.
A final 2004 yearly statement summarizing details from your 1099, 1042, T5, T5008 and RL-3 statements will be available after February 28, 2005. In addition we will be introducing a new Profit and Loss Summary section for the year 2004.
FIFO P&L information will be provided on all future monthly and yearly statements beginning at the end of February. January 2005 monthly statements will be re-generated at that time to include the new FIFO enhancements.

For more information on tax reporting, see our Tax Form Explanation page.

    Secure Transaction Program

The changes will make the higher security easier to use with your account. Customers with over $100,000 (or USD equivalent) in equity will be offered a free IB identity token which will generate one time use passwords that will be required for each and every cash withdrawal. IB will now limit customers without the identity token to a maximum withdrawal of $100,000/business day. See our Secure Transaction Program page for more information.
